It’s important to be consistent in your brand, in your promises, and the way you promote. I created a media kit for my first novel using photoshop and decided to keep the same format for the second and third novels. Promoting three novels means a lot of behind the scenes work and learning ways to save time, especially since I work another non-writing full-time job.
Consistent Example: Cover Pages
The images and color schemes change slightly to match the book cover image. The consistency is in the layout and size.
Let me walk you through my media kit process for all three novels.
Consistent Example: Table of Contents
Same format, same content, and same order.
Consistent Example: Pages 3-5
These pages focus on the specific novel and the author, including page numbers, ISBN numbers, and contact information.
Consistent Example: Images of Book
Similar in content, the book photos are used in multiple promos, and especially for social media posts.
Consistent Example: Author Images/Contact Information
The only change for these pages is the header and footer to match the colors/information for the specific novel.
Consistent Example: Questions for the Author
This Q & A section focuses on general questions perfect for all novels and then specific questions about the novel featured in the media kit.
**It’s important not to have questions that would give away spoilers of the book.
Consistent Example: Novel Excerpt
The font size did change from novel 2 to 3, but it was important that my media kit did not become too long. The decision was weighed between consistency and killing unwanted trees. ?
Learning tricks about Photoshop through Pinterest and YouTube videos, I was able to create a Media Kit template that makes it easier for me to quickly set up each novel and be consistent in my branding. The beauty of templates is when I start promoting novel four in the early Spring of next year, I won’t have to start from scratch to keep consistent with my media kits.
