On Tuesday, my third novel in the Grace Series came out… and I’m exhausted – mentally, physically, and spiritually. I will never launch three novels in three months again. I realized when I was deciding what to write for the last post of October that we are entering the holiday season with parties, food, events, shopping, and go… go… go…
So, I have decided on this post to focus on rest… Rest and Relaxation
Taking a breather
Putting my feet up
Slowing down to smell the roses
Making a cup of tea and savoring every drop
Reading a book just for the fun of it
Making do with what I have
Having more conversations with people than texts
Naps on the weekends, especially rainy days
Take sick days when I need them
Shorten my to-do lists
Not look at my to-do list every day
Chase the dog around the house because it makes his tail wag with happiness
Not be moving constantly
No running through my to-do list in my head
Focus on family and friends, not tasks and jobs
And basically, SLOW DOWN and enjoy the season.
I’m reminding myself that taking times of rest is a good thing. A Biblical thing, seasons of rest are important to our lives: spiritually, physically and mentally.
Sounds easy, right? We know it’s not. It’s not a natural part of my personality and I’ve learned the hard way I don’t do well when I’m not busy… but that just means I need to work at not working. That’s possible, right?
I hope so because NOT, not working will burn me out faster than anything and will lead to a sad season that I can’t enjoy. I know I’ll need help…
Dear Lord,
Help me to rest for the next two months. To not be busy every moment of the day. To find time to enjoy each day you have planned for me. Please help me to rest and relax, and enjoy the blessings and grace you send to me EACH and EVERY day.
Amen
Take some time the upcoming holiday season to rest and see the hand of God at work in your own life. I know it can be hard, but you’re worth it.
Leave a note about how you’re planning to rest the next few weeks. I’d love to hear from you and share tips and tricks.
Until next time, may God’s grace surround you,
